For everyone with passion for oceans

THE PLASTIC POLLUTION IS GROWING IN THE WORLD OCEANS

The world oceans and their habitat are challenged by the growing plastic pollution and all data suggest that we must act now. Life below water is essential to all people. Together we must try to preserve its value and pass it on to future generations.

Race for Oceans wishes to spread the word through various activities such as the Race for Oceans Relay and through other types of beach and ocean clean-ups all year round. Learn more about our activities and technology project under the other menus.

All Race for Oceans activities are free of charge and for everyove with passion for oceans.

Background

Signe Simonsen is the founder of the Race for Oceans. She is known for her drive and amongst other things, she is the first Danish woman to complete an adventure marathon on all 7 continents.

She herself has experienced the consequences of the growing plastic pollution on the beach and while diving all over the world.

Her international experience from elite sports combined with a hybrid leadership profile and her passion for oceans has contributed to the development of the Race for Oceans.

A UNIQUE CONCEPT

The Race for Oceans Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Løkken, Denmark.

Our purpose is to shine a light on Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, including the growing plastic pollution. In a unique way, we create a greater synergy between sports, beach clean-ups, and knowledge in our activities. We wish to be able to include everyone in our activities.

The journey began back in 2019 when we hosted the first Race for Oceans Relay - a 10-day sports event from Sylt to Skagen covering a distance of 456km. We have repeated this event since then, and in 2020, we received a Sustainable Development Goals Award.

Race for Oceans is built on volunteers and a strong cooperation with organisations and companies wishing to shine a light on SDG 14: Life below water, including the growing plastic pollution.

ORGANISATION

Team Race for Oceans consists of a group of 30 volunteers from all over Denmark with different competencies.

Depending on the location, a team from the area gathers for a given activity.
